The third Saturday of the training, we taught a public Intro to Vinyasa class to 40 students and put our knowledge to the test. It was both nerve-wracking and wonderful. Yoga teacher training is a massive exercise in public speaking, and Lord knows I get the shakes when I have to speak in public. I loved being able to help new students though. Assisting and adjusting students is my favorite part of teaching because it allows you to connect on an individual level. Some students had emotional releases at the end of the class. One said she never knew she could do yoga or feel the way the class made her feel. That, to me, is why I love yoga — to make connections with other people. I hope that I can make my future students feel the way that I do when I’m on my mat.
Always ask to replace french fries that come with most meals with side veggies, fruit, or a salad instead. That may very well be the difference between dying tomorrow or enjoying many more years on this beautiful planet.

As the foundation of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is established, principles of sequencing will be taught so yoga students can create a Vinyasa Yoga class according to the needs of their future students. To balance the Yang practice of Ashtanga, we will also practice Yin Yoga to provide students with a broader education and enhance their overall experience with yoga.
Each class is 55 minutes long and it consists of cardio, abs, pilates and light weights. I’ve been going for almost 6 weeks now, and I’ve liked every instructor I’ve tried. I was in for a real treat this past week when the creator of Burn, Lisa, subbed for my Saturday class. Not only did she kick my butt in class, but I loved how she came around to correct everyone’s form and collected the dumb bells to create more space on the mat. Definitely my favorite class so far!
Generally, if you’re trying to heal, practicing a gentler form of yoga, like Hatha, two to three times a week will prove beneficial. If you feel like yoga is helping, incorporating four or five sessions in a week may be better for you. You can also alternate days between yoga and some kind of aqua rehabilitation, which is a more conventional, therapeutic exercise. Try to avoid the more intense forms of yoga, like Bikram or Ashtanga, as they may just worsen your pain.

While keeping your inner heels and the balls of your big toes firmly grounded, begin to lift the instep of both feet just as you did against the resistance of the elastic exercise band.
