In the orthopedic world, what is often offered as a solution for fallen arches—particularly when they cause a knock-kneed condition—is support in the form of a lift or orthotics in the shoe. The artificial arch takes over the job of the tibialis posterior—and certainly the support is appreciated over the course of a long day as our feet get tired. Yet when the tibialis posterior is not working properly, a host of postural misalignments ensue, and some of them are not rectified by arch supports. With arch supports, changes do happen in the lower leg: the arch is lifted, and the shinbone of the lower leg (i.e., the tibia) rotates out from its base at the ankle, as it should.

1. Look at your whole body, not just your belly. If you round your upper back – and almost anyone who uses a computer, cooks, or drives a car does – then your belly is likely to stick out. Practice backbends and chest opening poses to help stretch and strengthen your upper back, and watch your “belly fat” magically disappear. Try lying down for five minutes every day with a rolled blanket or a bolster under your upper chest, and your head supported on a yoga block or blanket so it doesn’t hang back.
You may have an apple-shaped or a pear-shaped body structure. Accumulation of fat occurs differently for different people, it actually depends on the body structure. For those whose bodies are pear-shaped, the fat tends to accumulate in the lower part of the body, like the buttocks. But for those whose bodies are apple-shaped, your body tends to store fat around the middle section, thus resulting in fat accumulation around the belly. You must know that there are two types of belly fat – visceral, which accumulates around the abdominal organs, and subcutaneous, which occurs between the skin and abdominal wall.

The battery life is OK, at around 6 hours or so for me (including heavy web browsing, watching some videos on Hulu and Netflix, and even playing Minecraft, which this does really well!). I’d love better battery life like the Macbooks get, but it’s more than adequate for my uses. The sound is good enough for watching shows or playing games casually, although I’d want headphones for music, movies, or serious gaming (who is doing that on an ultrabook?!?). The weight is a little bit more than I’d like ideally, but I’m willing to have it if the tradeoff is solid construction and durability (which it appears it is NOT).
