Being tall and naturally slender, I was fortunate that I hardly worried about gaining weight growing up. I was always very active through running and swimming, and kept a balanced diet. My active lifestyle combined with a good metabolism enabled me to easily maintain a healthy weight.

Finally, on my last day I wasn’t even able to get into class. All three evening classes were completely booked. I put my name on the waiting list, hoping I’ll be able to get in. Haven’t received a confirmation or a notice, haven’t heard from anyone. I called 15 minutes before the class to see if I could come in. The girl on the phone told me that the class was full and that I could come and see if anyone doesn’t show up. It is a bit ridiculous considering there is no guarantee that I will not have to just go home right away. I asked if they could schedule me for a next day class because they are not able to provide me with the class I paid for. The girl told me that I would have to pay for that next day class separately because its the last day of my 30 day pass and they can’t extend it. LOL They can remove days from passes due to late cancellation policy alright. But they can’t add a day when they screw up and are unable to accommodate a client who already paid?

Yoga is a meditative process that will not work well unless you do it right and in fact, can be downright dangerous to do otherwise. Imagine doing a halasana (plow pose) or sarvangasana (shoulder stand with legs up) without proper awareness. You could end up with a herniated disc and chronic pain for the rest of your life. 4. We have not caught up to ourselves. Sometimes, no matter what we do, our teaching does not seem to want to snap back into what it once was. If this is the case, it’s a good idea to ask ourselves whether there is a disconnect between how we’ve been practicing and how we’ve been teaching. Things happen in life—and sometimes, those things trigger a change in the way we live our yoga. For example, let’s say you are a vinyasa teacher who loves a sweaty flow with lots of floating, inversions—the works. Then, one day, you become injured or receive a life-changing diagnosis. Suddenly, you find that a fast flow feels draining and torturous, but a slow, deep yin practice recharges your batteries. If you’ve made this kind of long-term change in your practice, does it make sense to keep teaching a practice you no longer do? If you need or want to make a change in your practice or your teaching, remind yourself that you are allowed to do that—it’s not a failure or a cop out. In fact, it is an excellent way to practice vairagya (non-attachment) and ahimsa (non-harming).
